Concept

A vehicle for the last stretch: light, no chain, no seat and no handlebars.

Movetrix is aimed at the young traveller at a holiday destination: short distances, an urge to move fast, and nowhere to store a bicycle. You carry it under one arm, step on with both feet and steer it with your body weight.

The underlying decision was to strip out everything that could go: no mechanical transmission, no conventional frame and no articulated steering. What's left is a tubular structure of constant diameter, two wheels and a platform.

The product

All the wiring runs inside the tubular structure. The battery sits under the platform and connects to the motor built into the rear axle.

Full side view of the Movetrix with callouts to each component: fork, scuff stop, battery, tubular structure, motor and LED lights.
The sequence of use illustrated in five steps, with human figures showing how the two-wheeler is carried, mounted, accelerated and steered.

Technologies

Exploded view of the Movetrix with callouts to the wheel, mudguard, grip sandpaper, plywood and tubular structure.

Structure

  • Steel tube, constant 25 mm diameter
  • Modified bicycle fork, sets the steering angle
  • Scuff stop, keeps the paint from being damaged

Wheels

  • 16-inch wheel, 16x2.125 mixed-tread tyres
  • Plastic mudguard, prevents accidental contact with the rider

Platform

  • Plywood, 0.9 mm thick
  • 80-grit sandpaper as grip, and as a semantic cue

Electrical

  • 400 W motor built into the rear axle
  • 36 V 400 W 25–42 V CC-CV battery, 1200 g
  • LED lights for riding on public roads
  • Custom throttle and brake control
Dimensioned general views of the Movetrix: side elevation at 406 mm high, plan at 385 mm wide and 1440 mm overall length.
